Ingredients :

  • 6 large eggs
  • 3 cups cubed bread day-old preferred
  • 2 cups shredded cheese cheddar or mozzarella
  • 1 lb breakfast sausage cooked and crumbled
  • 2 cups milk
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • ¼ teaspoon black pepper
  • Optional: ½ cup diced bell peppers spinach, or mushrooms

Directions :

  1. Grease a 9x13-inch baking dish. Spread the cubed bread evenly across the bottom.
  2. Sprinkle the cooked sausage and shredded cheese over the bread. Add any optional vegetables at this stage.
  3. In a bowl, whisk together eggs, milk, salt, and pepper until well combined. Pour the mixture evenly over the bread and toppings.
  4. Cover with foil or plastic wrap and refrigerate overnight (or for at least 8 hours).
  5. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Remove the casserole from the fridge and let it sit at room temperature for 15 minutes.
  6. Bake uncovered for 45-50 minutes, or until the top is golden and the eggs are set.
