If you're bored of the same old chicken recipes, you are going to love this one. Full of fresh citrus flavor and light, crispy chicken morsels, this is the best orange chicken recipe you'll ever try.
Ingredients :
- 1 cup orange juice
- ½ cup sugar
- 2 tablespoons rice vinegar
- 2 tablespoons soy sauce
- ½ teaspoon ginger minced
- ½ teaspoon garlic minced
- ½ teaspoon red chili flakes
- 1 tablespoon cornstarch
- 2 tablespoons chili garlic sauce
- 1 orange zested
- ⅓ cup flour
- ⅓ cup cornstarch
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 3 eggs beaten
- 4 chicken breasts cubed
- 3-5 cups vegetable oil
- 2 tablespoons green onions chopped
- 2 tablespoons cilantro chopped
Directions :
- Add orange juice, sugar, rice vinegar, soy sauce, ginger, garlic, and red chili flakes to a saucepan. Bring to a simmer over medium heat.
- Stir in 1 tablespoon of cornstarch and continue to simmer, stirring frequently, until the desired thickness is reached.
- Remove from heat and mix in the chili garlic sauce and the zest of one orange. Set aside.
- Combine flour, ⅓ cup of cornstarch, and salt in one bowl and beat the eggs in another.
- Heat the oil in a pan or wok over medium-high heat until boiling. You will want enough oil to fully submerge the chicken when you deep fry it.
- Deep fry the chicken in small batches for 4-5 minutes until the pieces are crispy and golden brown. Place cooked chicken on a paper towel-lined plate to absorb excess cooking oil.
- Toss the chicken in the orange sauce you prepared earlier and top it with chopped green onions and cilantro.
- Serve your homemade orange chicken immediately to enjoy its freshness and flavor.
