
Manakish
Manakish is a delicious Middle Eastern flatbread that is soft, slightly chewy, and topped with fragrant za’atar. It is easy to make at home with simple ingredients like flour, olive oil, and yeast. The topping, made with a mix of thyme, sesame seeds, and sumac, gives it a unique, tangy, and earthy flavor.
Ingredients :
- For the Dough:
- 3 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 tablespoon sugar
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 2 teaspoons instant yeast
- 1 cup warm water
- 2 tablespoons olive oil
- ¼ cup yogurt optional, for softness
- For the Za’atar Topping:
- ¼ cup za’atar spice mix
- ¼ cup olive oil
Directions :
- Make the Dough: In a bowl, mix flour, sugar, salt, and yeast. Add warm water, olive oil, and yogurt (if using). Knead until smooth. Cover and let rise for 1 hour.
- Prepare the Topping: Mix za’atar with olive oil in a small bowl.
- Shape the Dough: Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C). Divide the dough into 6 balls, roll them out into circles, and place on a baking sheet.
- Add the Topping: Spread the za’atar mix evenly on each piece of dough.
- Bake: Bake for 10-12 minutes until golden and slightly crispy.
- Serve: Enjoy warm or store for later.
