Dragon Roll

Love authentic Japanese sushi but hate flying? There's no need to go all the way to Japan for an authentic Japanese dragon roll. With this quick and easy dragon roll recipe, you can create your own sushi feast from the comfort of your own kitchen.

Ingredients :

  • 1 package nori
  • 1 cup sushi rice
  • ½ cucumber thinly sliced
  • ½ avocado thinly sliced
  • ¼ cup tobiko
  • 1 tablespoon sesame seeds

Directions :

  1. Bring a pot of oil to boil over medium-high heat.
  2. Once the oil is hot, dredge your shrimp in the tempura batter and add them to the oil to cook through. The shrimp is done when it is golden brown on the outside and pink on the inside - approximately 2-3 minutes. Set aside to cool.
  3. Constructing the Dragon Roll
  4. Cover your bamboo sushi mat in plastic wrap or a clean towel to keep the rice from sticking to it. Lay it down so the mat rolls away from you.
  5. Lay a nori sheet on top of your mat.
  6. Spread a thin, even layer of sushi rice over the nori seaweed sheet, leaving a small border at the top edge. Then, flip it upside down so the rice side faces the mat.
  7. Lay your cucumber and shrimp tempura in a line on the nori along the rice-less edge.
  8. Roll the sushi tightly using the bamboo mat to create a firm, compact roll. Apply gentle pressure while rolling to ensure all the ingredients are tightly packed together.
  9. Lay your avocado along the top of your roll and slice into ½" - ¾" thick pieces.
  10. Top each piece with a dollop of tobiko and a sprinkling of sesame seeds.
  11. Serve with soy sauce, and enjoy!
