Chicken Balti

Chicken Balti is a rich, flavorful curry that is cooked quickly over high heat in a single pan, making it both easy and delicious. This dish comes from the British-Indian fusion cuisine and is known for its bold spices, tender chicken, and thick tomato-based sauce.

Ingredients :

  • 1 lb 450g boneless chicken, cut into pieces
  • 2 onions chopped
  • 2 tomatoes chopped or pureed
  • 2 tablespoon oil
  • 1 tablespoon ginger-garlic paste
  • 1 teaspoon garam masala
  • 1 teaspoon turmeric
  • 1 teaspoon cumin
  • 1 teaspoon coriander powder
  • ½ teaspoon red chili powder adjust to taste
  • ½ cup water
  • ½ teaspoon salt adjust to taste
  • Fresh cilantro for garnish

Directions :

  1. Heat oil in a pan over medium heat. Add onions and sauté until golden brown.
  2. Add ginger-garlic paste and cook for 1 minute until fragrant.
  3. Stir in turmeric, cumin, coriander, and red chili powder. Cook for another minute.
  4. Add chopped tomatoes and cook until they break down into a thick sauce.
  5. Add the chicken pieces and stir well to coat with the sauce.
  6. Pour in water and simmer for 15-20 minutes until the chicken is fully cooked.
  7. Stir in garam masala and adjust salt to taste.
  8. Garnish with fresh cilantro and serve hot.
