Beef Osso Buco

Slow-cooked Beef Osso Buco with tender meat in a rich tomato and red wine sauce. A hearty Italian dish perfect with risotto, mashed potatoes, or crusty bread!

Ingredients :

  • 4 beef shanks bone-in
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 onion chopped
  • 2 carrots diced
  • 3 cloves garlic minced
  • 1 cup red wine
  • 1 can 14 oz diced tomatoes
  • 2 cups beef broth
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • ½ teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 teaspoon dried thyme
  • 1 bay leaf
  • 1 tablespoon fresh parsley for garnish

Directions :

  1. Sear the Beef: Heat olive oil in a large pot over medium-high heat. Season beef shanks with salt and pepper, then sear until browned on all sides. Remove and set aside.
  2. Sauté the Vegetables: In the same pot, add onions, carrots, and garlic. Cook until soft.
  3. Deglaze with Wine: Pour in red wine and stir, scraping up browned bits from the pot. Let it simmer for 5 minutes.
  4. Add Tomatoes & Broth: Stir in diced tomatoes, beef broth, thyme, and bay leaf. Bring to a simmer.
  5. Slow Cook the Beef: Return the beef shanks to the pot, cover, and simmer on low heat for 2 to 2.5 hours until tender.
  6. Serve: Remove the bay leaf, garnish with fresh parsley, and serve with risotto, mashed potatoes, or bread.
